Acer Netbook Review – My Second Acer

There were many factors involved in the decision to purchase the Acer Aspire Netbook but one of the most important one’s was that I have owned an Acer laptop pc before. I will get deeper into the other factors later in my review but my very first laptop was an Acer product and I was very happy with it. The price was affordable, although it was about $400 more than a laptop costs today. The configuration on my old Acer is close to what the Acer Aspire Netbook’s is that I just purchased for $300. Amazing how technology changes. It keeps getting more sophisticated and less expensive, who doesn’t like that.

About two years ago I upgraded my laptop to an HP, primarily for screen size purposes, but the Acer laptop performed very well as my primary pc for about 4 years. The HP is great because the screen is larger and I have the numeric keyboard included on the keypad. It has also been a great machine but as my blogging and website constructions have become more involved and now my newest venture of becoming an authorized reseller of Clear Internet WiMAX service I find myself lugging this larger laptop around with me on a daily basis.

When I first saw the little netbook computers I thought, “how cute, — I don’t get it”. Then I started realizing how cumbersome my large laptop had become.

Well, I must confess, I have taken the Netbook plunge and I love it. This is not to say that I am giving up my large screened laptop but I have to admit this little laptop is a lot easier to carry around. The bottom line is a few years ago I wasn’t as mobile as I am now with my computing needs. The past few years have seen a shift in the amount of people running around with their laptops. This will increase even more wiith the WiMAX technology that provides high speed mobile internet to give you the internet speed performance at affordable pricing wherever you are. The future is truly here, these are truly amazing times.

The problem for me was the size – small screen, small keyboard, small everything. That’s where this little Acer Aspire One came in – it was just a little bigger than most other netbooks, in the areas that count. The screen is just big enough to see what you are doing and the keyboard has regular sized keys. This allows for comfortable typing that does not require you to reconfigure your keystrokes to accomodate a miniature version of the keypad.

I am writing this article sitting at a Persian Tea house eating some dinner. What a cool atmosphere to do some blogging. If you have never tried it, the food is usually outstanding and the decor just inspires you.

The little laptop is easy to grab out of its small carrying case and I don’t have to feel like I need to rearrange the table to accommodate the computer. It’s also under the radar enough that I don’t look like I am setting up an office like some crazed workaholic. I can nibble on my appetizers of fresh cucumbers, tomatoes and dill sauce and blog away.

Acer Netbook Review Vitals

My Netbook of choice is the Acer Aspire One 11.5” screen with the large sized keypad. It comes with 2 gigs of RAM and a 260 gig hard drive. It came with Vista basic installed. The processor is a little slower than some of the other Netbooks but I was willing sacrifice a little speed for more RAM, Hardrive and bigger keys.

I have heard the sales pitch on these little computers to be something like, “You can check your email and do some surfing on the internet”. I completely disagree with that. I can check my email and surf on the internet on my Blackberry. The Netbook might not be as powerful as a full size laptop but with the 2 gigs of RAM and a 260 gig hard drive I am more than capable of running the different tools of my trade.

The decision to make is how much are you willing to pay for one of these little laptops. I wanted to pay around $300, which made sense to me, because to buy a smaller size regular laptop for $300 would not be possible. When you are considering paying in the high $300’s and over $400 it becomes a more difficult decision for me.

In conclusion, I am very happy with this little addition to my arsenal of technology. As time goes on I think they will become even more powerful and therefore more accepted as a viable purchase for the user. One thing I do know is during my research and reviews I saw a large number of people looking at and buying these little systems. What will they think of next?

For your shopping pleasure please stroll through the aisles I have provided for you below. Some great netbooks with prices as well. Happy Shopping and Holidays.
