How To Optimize Your Facebook Fan Page for the Search Engines

We spend a lot of time working hard on the keyword strategies and optimizing our websites for the search engines but as Facebook continues to take on a larger roll with businesses as the #1 social media platform where they can get their brand and message out to the public it is vital to get your Facebook Fan Page to rank well in the search engines as well.  Sometimes it could be more important with the ease of getting someone on your "List" as a fan.  The great thing is this is not that difficult but many businesses overlook this part of the process and miss the opportunities that can come from a well designed and a well ranked Facebook Fan Page.

Get To 25 Fans — FAST — For Your Vanity URL

The first thing to accomplish is gaining the vanity URL.  To do this you will need to get 25 fans. Once you reach this milestone you will be able to choose your http://facebook.com/yourbusinessname
URL, or whatever you want to call it.   Make sure you choose this name wisely though, you will not be able to change it once you make the choice.

That's just the first step though – the SEO Rich Sections are behind the scenes.

Preparing For A Successful Groupon Campaign

I have been extremely busy over the past few days preparing for the next Groupon Deal we are offering at the Muay Thai Kickboxing school called Total Boxing I am a partner and instructor at.  We had a Groupon offer about a year ago and did not prepare for it at all.  We were one of the side deals and had no idea what kind of traffic this kind of offer would create so it completely blind sided us.  Thankfully we were only a side deal.  We still sold 95 Groupons and the phone went crazy, the email went nuts and the website was bombarded for 2 days.   When the Groupons started to come through the front door we had no way of tracking them and inevitably we did not retain a lot of the first visitors.

We got a little smarter by the end of the year and as the last onslaught of Groupons came through the gym doors around New Years ( this is when the Groupon actually expired ) we were better prepared and converted a few of them into full time students.

Groupon Feature Checklist

This time I have incorporated a few strategies that should produce better results and convert more Groupon customers to long term clients.  Groupon gives you some guidance in preparing for the campaign but since Groupon deals with such a wide variety of businesses their instructions are a bit generic and focused more on adding additional merchandise and preparing the staff to handle the volume.

Here is the list Groupon gives to help you prepare:  Groupon Feature Checklist

My focus is more on converting as many Groupon visitors into Groupon Clients or capturing them into a list, even if they don't buy the coupon.  The last time we ran a Groupon the website traffic went through the roof so I am trying to capitalize on that traffic influx.  Some people will still call and send an email to get information but a majority of the investigation into your business will be via your website – if you have one that is.  If you don't, you should at least have your Google Places, Yelp, Bing and Yahoo accounts claimed.  If you need help doing this, go to my business site and contact me - Internet Launch Marketing

How To Create iFrame Fan Pages – The iFrame Classroom

On March 11, 2011 the world changed forever, Facebook stopped allowing you to build Fan Pages in FBML ( Facebook Markup Language ).   The significance of this is only now just being realized.  As time goes on and more and more applications and ways of using Facebook are created, the more powerful this move will be.

Free iFrame Fan Page Tutorial Classroom – Complete with Free Hosting – Free Autoresponder – Free Templates

The downside to the Facebook user is now you have to host your own pages and learn how to call up those files via HTML so they can be seen on your Fan Pages.  This takes a little bit of expertise but believe me it is easy.  In fact the best thing about this is it will force you to learn skills that will help you work on your own websites.

Some of the possibilities that have opened up now that all Fan Page customized pages need to be created in iFrames is streaming video, more flexible landing and information pages on Facebook and even the possibility of being able to upload a WordPress site and utilize it within Facebook.  This gives you the ability to literally have a website within Facebook.   You can do all the editing to the pages from your website dashboard and have those changes show up instantly in your Facebook Fan Page site.

Some church services are now being aired on Facebook, Live, with the streaming video.  That's pretty cool, don't you think.

What I have been working on over the past 5 weeks is a virtual classroom that will give you all the tools you will need to build and manage iFrame pages.  I have uncovered a Free hosting service and a Free auto-responder service so you literally can do all of the iFrame operations for Free.  This was the price when Facebook was hosting your site with the FBML pages.  I wonder if that is one of the reasons they shifted.  Probably not because they would have just started selling you hosting space.  I really think they did it to allow a much richer Fan Page experience.

Here is the link to the classroom tutorial program.  I hope you sign up and get involved with building Fan Pages, they are a powerful way to build a business and help people.

Go here to sign up for this Free Class with so much Free Stuff it will make your head spin.  Trust Me.

3 Outstanding Tips To Growing Your Business Today

The strategies to building a business and creating relationships with your customers have changed.  There is some truth to this statement and there are some things that really haven't changed at all.  What has changed more than anything is the need for a business to involve itself into the strategies of marketing and building relationships at a much more committed level than it might have done in the past.

Meet Sharon Gorman

This week I had the privilege of spending some time with a very successful Chiropractor that has built a number of practices over her career in a variety of different geographic locations.   Why is that important?  The main thing is the same principles work where ever you are – as long as you apply them.  Her name is Sharon Gorman and you can find her at Gorman Chiropractic.  She gave a great presentation on what she has done and learned about over the years of being in business.   We have all heard them before but have we applied them?  That is always the key isn't it.  You have to take action and I will go a step further and say, you have to take positive action.  Many times I think we take negative action or counter-productive action and feel like any action is better than no action.  This is not always true.

Advanced Facebook Searching – How To Find Stuff On Facebook

It is amazing all of the things that Facebook can do for you.  It laser targets ads for you, it sorts through your news feeds to post the most relevant and popular information and now it even provides you with a tool to poll your friends that allows them to add choices to the polling question.

What Doesn't Facebook Do Well???

The one thing that Facebook does not seem to do very well is provide a good search tool to laser target your search items.  It gives some choices but they are kind of scrambled and include Yelp feeds and all kinds of things that have nothing to do with what you might be looking for.

Thankfully there is a great search tool you can use to find exactly what you are looking for and much more.

First Post From The IMac Using Blogo – Not So Good

It has taken me a couple of weeks to get to this point of attempting to add content to my WordPress Blog with my IMac. I have been searching for blog editing software comparable to Windows Live Writer and for the same price. I am here to tell you – it’s not possible. Most of the blog editing software for the Mac that has any functionality at all comes with a price, Windows Live Writer is FREE. It’s hard to pay a price for something that is probably not as good as what you are used to and that you got for free.

This particular software is called Blogo. It has a bizarre looking rabbit as its icon and so far the interface of the software is a bit low budget. I am in a 21 day free trial period and the purchase price is $25 if I decide to purchase it.

At this point I have been struggling with how to format the article. I can’t find anything to do with font size, color or style. The process of putting a picture into the post was not difficult but there were not a lot of editing options. Blogo does not give you the type of flexibility Live Writer did with the drop shadow type options and the ability to name the picture for SEO purposes, its pretty cut and dry. Find a picture, resize it and that is about it. I did send this post accidentally the first time and the small picture I had attached to it seemed to post fine. When I tried another picture that was a little bigger the upload did not go through. That is why there is not a picture on this post.

My assessment at this point is it should not be this hard to edit the type and create a post that has some flare and the ability to utilize good SEO strategies. There is no H1, H2 type of Heading options. There is not even the ability to change the font size to allow for paragraph titles to draw attention through your content. I think it is time to move on to the next option. Maybe I will look into setting up a section of my IMac to run Windows software. The problem with that is I need to spend another $185 dollars on Windows 7. UUUggggghhhhh. This is frustrating.

Amendment: Another element that is unacceptable with Blogo is the inability to specify what category you want to assign your post. Also you do not have the option to create pages, only posts. Blogo is Nogo for me.

Cold Calling Tactics That Pay Off

cold calling Over the past month I have been trying to meet with a certain counselor that is responsible for elective programs at a special needs school close to my house.  I teach Muay Thai Kickboxing to kids and I want to offer my classes to the school.

My Approach

The problem was she was never available.  On my initial visit I uncovered the information on whom I would need to talk to from the front desk operator.  I gave my 30 second pitch so she knew what I was doing, dropped off a few brochures and invited her to the gym.

The next day I came back.  I did not call or set an appointment because I wanted to meet the person I needed to talk to in person.  She was not available.  I left my information and asked that she be told I stopped in again to meet her and left.  Two days later the same thing.  I had acquired the times she might be available and tried to visit during those times but for one reason or another, she was not available during my visits.

At this point I made a phone call and left a message saying I had dropped in a few times to see if I could catch her – I stated what I was doing and left my number for her to call me.  I did not call again.

Just A Hint Of Interest Is A Salesman’s Mile

About a week later I got a message from her with a hint of interest.  This is what I was waiting for and at this point I knew I could put a little more pressure on.  I called her back and left a message for her only once.  At this point my strategy was to again attempt an impromptu meeting. I went in yesterday and asked to see her.  I knew I was there at a time when she would be available but once again she was busy.  I made a comment that she must be the hardest working person at the school.  I then mentioned that she had called me and I was following up.   At this point the front desk worker said she would see if there would be a chance for her to see me.  She came back and said if I could stick around for 10 minutes, the counselor would have time.  Finally.

The How & The Why

The lessons here are good ones.

  1. On my initial visit I clearly stated my reason for wanting to see the person responsible for my service.  I then involved the front desk worker by inviting her to the gym and giving her some information.
  2. I found out what times the person I needed to see would be available. I wanted to see them in person and not pitch them over the phone.  Sometimes you might just want to do some phone work but the tactics remain the same.  You just make the phone call at the appropriate times.
  3. When I had tried a number of times to catch her in the office and was unsuccessful, I then made the phone call to try and at least have a conversation with her.
  4. After I made the phone call I did not keep bugging her.  I let some time pass and in that time I was lucky enough, in this instance, to receive a call back that indicated some interest.  If I would not have received a call back I would not have kept calling her.  I would have attempted another face to face.
  5. I returned the call promptly and when I did not receive a call back my next move was to again attempt a face to face visit – this time applying a bit more pressure to see her.

Summary To Success

I was not a pushy salesman.  I was professional and persistent but not overly aggressive.  This goes a long way, especially today when people are bombarded by sales tactics all day long.  The end result was the possibility of both my classes and the Judo classes offered by another instructor.  It just so happened that the school was looking for a knew venue to offer the Judo classes at.  So you just never know what you will run into but I guarantee if you put yourself out there and use some professional tact you will find knew business.  It is an important element of gaining knew business, especially in the state of the economy.  You have to find new business, it will not find you.
