How To Update A Facebook Fan Page From Your Smart Phone

I am the administrator of an ever growing list of fan pages for myself and my clients and so it has become necessary to do updates and posts throughout the day.  I am pretty mobile throughout the day and try to send updates when I pop open my laptop but I knew I needed to figure out a way to do it with my smart phone.    I wasn't sure if I could make it work but I thought there must be a way to do it.   Well with a little research I figured it out and so wanted to share my discovery with you.

If you are working on your own Fan Page and have been looking for some help on creating your iFrame pages then you should check out this FREE tutorial program I created that teaches you exactly how to do it.  I even give you some templates to choose from and customize to fit your needs.  Free Facebook Fanpage Tutorial Program

There are actually a few different ways to do it but the one that made the most sense to me is the email method.

You can find these directions within the the edit mode of your fan page.  Click on Mobile and you will see these instructions.

With Mobile Email

If you have email on your mobile device (e.g., Blackberry, Android, etc.), use email to upload photos or status updates:

  1. Save this email address to your phone as a contact:
  2. To upload a photo, email the photo to this address and include a caption in the email subject line.
  3. To update your status, write in the email subject line and leave the email body blank.

With Mobile Web

The easiest way to find your page is to type in the URL for your page. To obtain a personalized Facebook URL for your page, visit http://facebook.com/username .

With the iPhone

Install the Facebook application and login. Click the "+" sign on the top left corner and then Click "Pages" on bottom right. Select your page — it is now a favorite on your home dock. Now click your page's icon. To post a photo, click the "camera" icon. To post a status update, tap the "What's on your mind?" field.

With Text Messaging (SMS)

Sign up for Facebook Text Messages to post status updates to your page.

Hope this helps you and if you have any questions or comments please leave them in the comments below.

Facebook Apps Directory Shut Down

I have been trying to find the Facebook App Directory this week on every time I tried there was a message that the page was not found.  At first I thought I was just missing something but after a couple more tries with no results I started looking for what the problem was.  Well, I found out why.  Facebook has shut down the App Directory.

Here is the announcement from the Facebook directory announcing the change.

Today, we are announcing two updates to decouple the search submission from the directory to make it easier for you to get your app into the Facebook search index:

  1. We are removing the App Directory (in its current form) since it does not drive a significant amount of traffic to your apps.
  2. We are creating a new, simplified way to get your app into the Facebook search index.

How To Optimize Your Facebook Fan Page for the Search Engines

We spend a lot of time working hard on the keyword strategies and optimizing our websites for the search engines but as Facebook continues to take on a larger roll with businesses as the #1 social media platform where they can get their brand and message out to the public it is vital to get your Facebook Fan Page to rank well in the search engines as well.  Sometimes it could be more important with the ease of getting someone on your "List" as a fan.  The great thing is this is not that difficult but many businesses overlook this part of the process and miss the opportunities that can come from a well designed and a well ranked Facebook Fan Page.

Get To 25 Fans — FAST — For Your Vanity URL

The first thing to accomplish is gaining the vanity URL.  To do this you will need to get 25 fans. Once you reach this milestone you will be able to choose your http://facebook.com/yourbusinessname
URL, or whatever you want to call it.   Make sure you choose this name wisely though, you will not be able to change it once you make the choice.

That's just the first step though – the SEO Rich Sections are behind the scenes.

How To Create iFrame Fan Pages – The iFrame Classroom

On March 11, 2011 the world changed forever, Facebook stopped allowing you to build Fan Pages in FBML ( Facebook Markup Language ).   The significance of this is only now just being realized.  As time goes on and more and more applications and ways of using Facebook are created, the more powerful this move will be.

Free iFrame Fan Page Tutorial Classroom – Complete with Free Hosting – Free Autoresponder – Free Templates

The downside to the Facebook user is now you have to host your own pages and learn how to call up those files via HTML so they can be seen on your Fan Pages.  This takes a little bit of expertise but believe me it is easy.  In fact the best thing about this is it will force you to learn skills that will help you work on your own websites.

Some of the possibilities that have opened up now that all Fan Page customized pages need to be created in iFrames is streaming video, more flexible landing and information pages on Facebook and even the possibility of being able to upload a WordPress site and utilize it within Facebook.  This gives you the ability to literally have a website within Facebook.   You can do all the editing to the pages from your website dashboard and have those changes show up instantly in your Facebook Fan Page site.

Some church services are now being aired on Facebook, Live, with the streaming video.  That's pretty cool, don't you think.

What I have been working on over the past 5 weeks is a virtual classroom that will give you all the tools you will need to build and manage iFrame pages.  I have uncovered a Free hosting service and a Free auto-responder service so you literally can do all of the iFrame operations for Free.  This was the price when Facebook was hosting your site with the FBML pages.  I wonder if that is one of the reasons they shifted.  Probably not because they would have just started selling you hosting space.  I really think they did it to allow a much richer Fan Page experience.

Here is the link to the classroom tutorial program.  I hope you sign up and get involved with building Fan Pages, they are a powerful way to build a business and help people.

Go here to sign up for this Free Class with so much Free Stuff it will make your head spin.  Trust Me.

Advanced Facebook Searching – How To Find Stuff On Facebook

It is amazing all of the things that Facebook can do for you.  It laser targets ads for you, it sorts through your news feeds to post the most relevant and popular information and now it even provides you with a tool to poll your friends that allows them to add choices to the polling question.

What Doesn't Facebook Do Well???

The one thing that Facebook does not seem to do very well is provide a good search tool to laser target your search items.  It gives some choices but they are kind of scrambled and include Yelp feeds and all kinds of things that have nothing to do with what you might be looking for.

Thankfully there is a great search tool you can use to find exactly what you are looking for and much more.

How many times have you wanted to Dislike something on Facebook.  The Like button is all over the place and you can certainly voice your opinion with a click of the button if you Like something but when I don't like something I want that to be known almost more than if I like it.   Are you with me on this?

Well I stumbled on one of the coolest little Apps called Status Magic.  In fact you can give your fans or friends a variety of options, it does not have to be Dislike it could be "Give Be A Break"  "LOL" or whatever your imagination can come up with.  How cool is that?

So if your interested in adding a new dimension to your Facebook page check it out.  Let me know what you think.

Facebook Apps You Need To Include On Your Fan Pages

I have been working hard on the FREE Fan Page Tutorial Program and part of the work I have been doing is surfing a lot of different Fan Pages to see what other people are doing.  There are some really cool ones out there and they will just keep getting better with the iFrame platform.  I am excited about all the possibilities.

One of the things I have discovered is there are some "must have" Apps you need to incorporate on your Fan Pages to help round them out and make them more interactive and informative.  This is going to be an ever expanding list but I thought I would start it now and get it moving.

You Tube App - Now the first one is pretty cool but I have to let you know I have also created a similar one within my Free Fan Page Tutorial Program.   Get FREE iFrame Fan Page Templates Here

The You Tube App allows you to embed videos on a page and also add a description.  The videos sit in a thumbnail size box until you click on them.   The page I created allows you to show a much larger version of the video and you can also have unlimited videos on the page and add comments to the videos.  The page I created allows you to show videos from a variety of different sites.  It is not just dedicated to YouTube.  I actually have both on the fan page so you can check it out.  Go here to see the different pages.

Fan Pages Made Simple

I would greatly appreciate you Liking the page while you are there.  You can also just go ahead and sign up for the class.

Networked Blogs App:  This allows you to pull in other blogs around the internet if you want or you can set up your own personal blog and pull that into your Facebook Fan Page.  This will allow you some more potential exposure to your blog, especially if you promote it within your niche on Facebook as well as give your Fan Page readers a look at your own personal blogs information.

Promotions: One of the greatest ways to attract people to your company is do giveaways and contests since almost anyone would like something for free. This app gives you a quick and easy method of doing these promotional marketing methods through Facebook.

Poll: The poll app on Facebook is a fantastic resource once it is connected to your Fan Page.  Not only does this give you the power to extract vital information from your audience but it gives them a reason to interact with you and hold their attention just a minute longer.  You never know when that extra minute might turn into a sale or at least a return visit – especially if you make the polls live and dynamic.

Removing Facebook iFrame Scroll Bars – An Adventure

The World Has Changed Forever

Well it is official, the world has changed forever – Facebook no longer accepts FBML Fan Pages.  This has created quit the buzz in the internet world and one that has certainly brought a good bit of attention to Facebook.  In that respect alone it has already proven to be a good move.

Now it seems that although the creation of the fan pages will take a bit more time and skills the possibilities are broader and gives you the ability to create a more website oriented interface within your Facebook platform.  This is only going to bring more people and business into the Facebook machine.

Once you get your Fan Page up and running you will need some guidance to attract Fans.  They don't just start clicking the Like button because you now have a Fan Page.  Believe me.

One of the best Guides and How-To's I have found is a 30 Day Program called 3000 Fans in 30 Days.  This is an outstanding 30 day program that will produce results.  There is a small investment – less then $10 but if you are going to take the time to build a Fan Page then you need to make a small investment to attract fans.  Another way to look at it is the statistics today are saying that each fan is worth at least $1.00 if you are running your Fan Page correctly and monetizing it.  In other words this little investment can make you a lot of money if you follow the program.

How To Remove The Developer Application From Your Facebook Applications

Because of the many changes occurring with the Facebook fan pages I wanted to remove the Developer Application so I could re-install it to take some screen shots for the video series I am creating to teach people how to develop fan

pages in the new world order of modern day Facebook.  The problem is when I went to remove the Developer Application there was seemingly no way to do it.

When I finally figured it out, which was not easy, I thought I might share the information in case someone else would want to know how to remove this very difficult to remove application.  Once I figured it out – it was easy.

Most applications can be removed from this page below but when you have the Developers Application installed it does not show up when you click Edit Settings like the other applications do.

The way to remove this application is to go to the actual Facebook page of the application.

Developer Facebook Page

Here is a screen shot of the left column – because I have removed the Developer Application there is not an option to remove it but now an option to Add to My Page.

You will see an option to remove the application.  Click on that option and you will be prompted to remove the application from your page.

That's it your done.

Now I need to get back to work and Add it back to my page.  I will be creating a series to make the transition to the new world Facebook order as painless as possible.  If you want to receive these updates and information as I created them please join my list and I will contact you as they are completed.
