Questions to Help You Create The Personal Mission Statement.
Some questions to ask yourself. What is my core values urging me to pursue? What or Who inspires me the most? What is my life’s aim or my calling? How do you want to be remembered? or How would you change the world if you could?
- The goal is to make it clear, brief and simple. No more than 2 to 4 sentences long.
- What do you want to focus on and who do you want to become as a person, your character, in this part of your life. What actions, qualities, activities and habits will have a positive influence on helping you reach your goals.
- Make it positive. If you are cutting something out of your life talk about the positive reaction to your life it will make to be rid of the negative. No negative statements only positive ones.
-
The mission statement should help to guide you through your everyday life. Helping you to make decisions and stay focused on the mission.
-
Make it emotional and exciting. Inspiration and making a stand can lead to very powerful human lives. Put yourself out there, reach for something and you have a better chance of touching it than if you never reached at all.
Here are a couple of examples:
Walt Disney: My mission in life is to make people happy.
Eric Schmidt, CEO, Google: My mission is to collect all the world’s information and make is accessible to everyone.
Let’s Get Busy
Alright, let’s get busy. Set aside one hour of no disruptions. Have your journal and a pencil. Start with writing some ideas down. Anything just write. Nothing is wrong, all ideas are good ones. Write ideas for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes stop writing and look at what you have written. Try to find the one or two common themes. This will give you some good ideas for your mission statement. Remember this is not set in stone. It can and will change over time but the first thing is to get something on paper and start to move forward.
See you on the other side.
