As we learn how to center and focus the mind with our daily exercise of concentrating on our simple breathing exercise for a whole minute we are training ourselves to be more efficient for this first step in learning how to work better. The goal as we move through the steps of productivity is continuing to practice the breathing and focusing exercise each day, it only takes a few minutes. Simple Meditation Breathing Technique. Try to hold your focus for more than a minute. Start with small increments such as 1 minute and 15 seconds and keep adding 15 seconds each day.
Step 1 – How To Work Better & Be More Productive
Step 1 is as simple as the breathing exercise – Do One Thing At A Time. As simple as it sounds the fact is it is extremely difficult for many of us to do. So much of our lives are in a multi-task mode that if we really tried to focus on only doing one thing at a time we would find our mind wondering and before you knew it we would be adding things to our task list.
The better we get at only doing one thing at a time the better we get at actually accomplishing and finishing tasks. One way to put this into practice is to pick easy tasks to work on that won't take a long time but will allow us to independently focus on and accomplish as "one thing at a time" tasks.
Simple Tasks To Practice The Process Of Focus
Some examples would be things like watering the flowers or paying the bills. If you think this sounds silly think about it. I use these examples because I know when I am watering plants or paying bills I actually have 2 or 3 or 4 other things going on at the same time. Many times I will get distracted by one of these other things and before I know it I have stopped paying the bills, drifted over to the other things I was thinking about and forgot I was even paying bills or watering plants. This is the fundamental problem. Doing one thing at a time, completing it and then moving on to the next thing. Not doing multiple things at the same time and getting distracted in multiple directions only to find you haven't really accomplished any of the tasks but now have 4 things going at the same time.
Focusing On Our Internet Business – One Task At A Time
This problem gets even more serious as we spend time on the internet. How easy it is to get distracted as we surf around the internet from our emails and social media accounts, when we should be working on our businesses. Time can get away from us so easily today by clicking on a link and before you know it 2 hours has passed and we haven't accomplished anything we set out to. The more focused on accomplishing one task at a time and staying away from the constant barrage of distractions the more productive we will be. In fact I would go as far to say that you would put yourself clearly ahead of the competition because so many people are struggling with this inability to focus and get things done.
The task at hand is simple, as you perform your focused project, pay attention to the process and when your mind starts to wonder bring yourself back to the task at hand and stay focused on doing one thing at a time. It will be much like the meditation practice of focusing on your breathing.
Do you see how they are connected now?
Alright, get busy and pay attention to doing only on thing at a time.

I agree. As I’ve started working to grow my internet business, I’ve found that the more I focus on one thing and the less I focus on all of the shiny things out there, the better I do. There have been a few WSOs recently that have piqued my interest. The only thing that has kept me from buying has been the fact that I know it will distract me from what I am currently doing.
Kevin, Thanks for the focused comments and dedication to staying on task. I struggle with this just like everyone else and I think good supporting stories and strategies can help people realize we all have the same issues but learning how to stay focused on one thing at a time is the key to getting things done.
